"Del Diable" bridge (Martorell - Barcelona)
Location:
It is located over the Llobregat river in Martorell town.
Description and History:
It was built in Roman times, probably during the empire of
Augustus (between 10-8 BC)
on the 'Via Augusta', and was the only bridge of the 'Baix Llobregat'
valley until the XVIII century.
Has been renovated and rebuilt several times, probably due to the
successive floods of the river (are documented reconstructions 1143 and
1283).
The central arch was destroyed during the Spanish Civil War
(1936-1939), the posterior reconstruction (1962) has faithfully
maintained the Gothic structure reform of 1283.
